The Mexican-American War starts on May 13, 1845 because of border disputes.

The war ended on February 2, 1848 with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Current day California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming are sold for $15 million in what is known as the Mexican Cession.

The treaty also sets borders between the U.S. and Mexico so that there is no further dispute.


From Texas to the Pacific

The Annexation of Texas helped complete the dream to reach the Pacific and fulfill the belief of Manifest Destiny.

The annexation of Texas lead to the Gadsden Purchase which ultimately led to Americans having access to the Pacific.

Manifest Destiny, the belief that American settlers were destined to expand throughout the continent, was fulfilled.

The United States spread its technology, social ideas, political ideas, and religion throughout the country.

Relationship to Other Purchases

Other purchases along with Texas Annexation created more territory for Americans to settle in.
