ANNEXATION.
1821 to 1846 was an unstable time for the residents of the area.

On March 1, 1836, the Constitution of the Republic of Texas was drafted.

On March 2, 1836, the the Texas Decleration of Independence was written.

This is justified by a list of grievances

In September 1836, Texans ratify the constitution and elect government officials. Furthermore, Texans vote on being annexed to Texas.

During that time period, border disputes contine to exist
REPUBLIC OF TEXAS

Stephen Austin earns permission for settling and he does so in 1821.

Shortly after, Mexico gains independence from Spain

Mexicans living in texas, Tejanos, and Anglo-American settlers oppose the Mexican government.

The war for independence starts with the Battle of Gonzales on October 25, 1835.
-
The Mexicans lose at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836
-
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the Mexican President, recognized Texas as independent.
INDEPENDENCE
Control over Texas constantly shifted
First from Spain to Mexico, then after its war, it became independent. Finally, it was annexed to the United States, becoming the 28th state.
